Client: Marcol Industrial Investments/Bedfordia Developments
In response to the ‘call for sites’ by Bedford Borough Council, the Client engaged a professional team to develop a Masterplan for the development of its landholding at Twinwoods. Comprising both brownfield and greenfield land, the 490ha site could accommodate 6,000 homes and a range of complementary land uses including a significant employment offer.
Matrix was engaged to develop a mobility strategy for the site, to facilitate the significant associated movement needs safely and effectively. The holistic strategy comprises highway proposals, strategies for walking and cycling and a proposal to initiate new bus services that link quickly and frequently to Bedford, the nearest significant centre.
Working closely with the Masterplanner, we evolved solutions for the layout of the site that would optimise internal accessibility, particularly movement on foot and by bicycle. A phasing plan has been developed that links the delivery of new homes to investment in accessibility
The Transport Strategy has been audited by the Council’s transport consultant, who has concluded that the strategy as presented by Matrix indicates no significant transport issues.
